Everything You Need to Know About the Magento 2.4.6 Release Update

Adobe plans to release the next major Magento release update. The Magento 2.4.6 release date is March 14, 2023, with the pre-release version available two weeks before the general release on February 28, 2023.

The new update contains numerous (over 300) changes. Upgrades, general fixes, and new features are all part of this extensive set of changes. We will handle it for you in a timely, simple, and straightforward manner.

Security Enhancements:

The update includes eight security and platform fixes. These enhancements limit the possibility of customer data being stolen or administrator sessions being hijacked.

Other security improvements include:

  • If an unexpected problem arises during the checkout process, reCAPTCHA will no longer crash or fail.
  • To address gaps in admin logs, activities are examined across grid views, mass actions, and exports.

Platform Enhancements:

  • PHP 8.2 is supported, and PHP 8.1 will remain functional.
  • Magento 2.4.6 will not run on PHP 7.4 because support for it has been removed.
  • ElasticSearch 8.x and Composer 2.2.x are supported.
  • Redis 7.0.x is supported; Redis 6.2 is still compatible but will reach end of service in April 2024
  • OpenSearch is now the default search engine for Adobe Commerce on-premise and cloud installations, as well as an independent search engine for Magento. Source Code
  • Although MariaDB (LTS) is still supported, upgrading to MariaDB 10.6 is recommended.
  • The DHL scheme has been upgraded from v6.2 to v10.0.
  • Outdated JavaScript libraries are updated to the most recent versions, and obsolete dependencies are removed; they are still backward compatible.

Performance Improvements:

We will notice improved customer segment operations such as:

  • Improved performance of operations involving more than 100 customer segments
  • The Real-time Check reduces the processing time.
  • The new configuration setting will now limit the number of displayed products. The new limit is set to 20,000. It will improve product grid performance.
  • The new update will also improve the import performances by 100,000 records per minute.
  • The update also boasts an improvement in high throughput order processing performance. It will get done through load balancing among different nodes.

Accessibility Updates:

  • The Sign In button has been updated to match its accessible name. (Blind users can now understand what the button says).
  • To improve accessibility, the storefront has been updated with descriptive names on buttons.
  • The “Has Video” checkboxes in search filters now have descriptive labels.
  • Keyboard-only users can now access all page functionality on our storefront, whereas previously shoppers could not access sub-navigation links using only keystrokes.

Braintree Payment Method:

  • Web hooks for Fraud Protection, ACH, and LPM (Local Payment Methods) have been added.
  • Enabled the Braintree Pay Later button & messages for Italy and Spain.
  • Enabled the PayLater messaging with PayPal Vault

GraphQL enhancements:

  • Response time for bulk cart operations has been reduced.
  • Response time will be improved when querying categories for which permissions are enabled.
  • Improved performance of category tree rendering.

Page Builder & PWA Studio Compatibility

Adobe Commerce/Magento 2.4.6 now supports Page Builder v.1.7.3 and PWA Studio v.13.0.x.

Other Major Issue Fixes & Improvements

Aside from the performance highlights mentioned above, Magento 2.4.6 includes hundreds of other quality fixes and improvements in its core code. Other significant bug fixes and code enhancements include:

  • Issues with Magento installation, upgrade, and deployment have been resolved, and performance has been improved.
  • Google reCAPTCHA errors — ReCaptcha validation failed, please try again, and No such cart with id = ID have been fixed.
  • Page builder now has a drag-and-drop feature for importing images in bulk.
  • When the Minimum Terms to Match option is enabled, Search will accept queries with quotation marks.
  • Issues with the staging dashboard’s total number of records were fixed.

Install/Upgrade To Magento Commerce 2.4.6
